Seize the Birthday #217 Use an Embossing Folder

Welcome to another fun challenge at Seize the Birthday! For the next two weeks, Ashwini is our host and she has asked us to use an embossing folder.

Just remember to keep it a Birthday Theme!

If you're not a toppings kinda person, well.....you can just

stick with our usual "Anything Goes"Birthday!

The choice is yours!

Using an embossing folder is an easy technique, but I went to Youtube and Jennifer McGuire for some inspiration. I found this one that uses ink on your folder.  I made several before I decided on the one that I wanted to use. I found that the distress ink needed several passes, where the Gina K and PTI ink only needed one. I will use these others for future cards, but for this challenge, I used the Peach Bellini.
The one on the far right in this picture.

The embossing folder is Sizzix 3D folder called Botanical
I pretty much when with the design that I saw on Jennifer's video
If this is not your type of technique, just go to her search and type in embossing.  She has lots of them.

I made a frame from some of the dies that I had just like Jennifer did. Then I used a butterfly from Memory Box that was laying on my desk. The sentiment is a preprinted one from Simon Says. These 3D embossing folders really give dimension and look amazing on a card. Oh, I did add three gems.

Our Surprise Party Guest Melanie Hungerford for the next couple of months.   You can find her blog here.  The entire team has lots of inspiration for your entry.

Give it a try!

Double D Challenge - Signs of Summer

Boy, this month is going fast for me.
Lots of warm weather and things to do
inside keep me busy.
I hope that you have time to join us at Double D for this challenge called
Signs of Summer.
Darlene is our host and just look at the inspiration board she has done for us.
I like all of these summer signs, but I also like the beach. That was my inspiration

Here is my card and I am so lucky to have the beach at my beck and call.
Here in Wisconsin and in Florida.

For this card, I used these supplies. GKD Life's a Beach stamp set for the sentiment,  By the Sea for the beach chairs and the grass.  The Clouds are a stencil from A Colorful Life. I used a mini slimline card for this one too.

There is a prize for a random winner, you all have a chance to win. So get over to the blog to see what the rest of the team has done for your inspiration. It will be worth the click. HERE

Prize:

Make the Card - Encouragement

My good friend and fellow crafter Judy Woodland is the quest designer for Make the Card this week. I love her two cards.  They are super detailed and she has a surprise one with bookbinding.  Judy always comes up with a different technique. Check it out HERE and see what I mean.

I decided to join in the fun and I made this card for the challenge this week.

This is a large card as the stamp from GKD is large and I didn't want to lose any of it.
It measures 5 X 7 1/2 inches.
The stamp is called Timeless Poppies and I used Daniel Smith Watercolors to give it life.
After completing the coloring, I die cut the bottom and top with a border die. I let some black peek out on each end. Do you see the crystal droplets on the card front? I really like the sentiment from that set.

I am entering this in the Make the Card Challenge for this week.

Thanks for stopping by and I always appreciate your comments!

Seize the Birthday - Nautical #216

Wow, this month is going so fast!  It is time for another Seize the Birthday Challenge. It's Nautical!
Are fishes Nautical?  I sure hope so. This is my card for this challenge.

It is a trifold card that I saw a while ago from Jennifer McGuire.  You can find it here.

It opens like this and has more fishes inside. I put a smaller panel behind the front cover as I thought it looked better that way. What do you think? It was done with an old stamp set from Stampin Up called Fishy Friends. I colored them and fussy cut them out and arranged them like I wanted. I used Gina K connect glue to hold them together and then onto a small piece of card stock. The entire card is adhered to a base card stock of Asparagus Green. I got the sentiment from MFT called Gill Friends.  On the inside is a sentiment from Simon Says die, It's Your Day.

And we have another Surprise Party Guest Melanie Hungerford for the next couple of months.  Welcome Melanie, and you can find her blog here

Looking forward to your Nautical cards, or if you are not a toppings kind of person just make it a Birthday theme.

Color Hues - Blue and Brown #19

Blue and Brown are for this next challenge at Color Hues. I matched up several shades of blue and brown before I found one combo that I liked.  It is not very masculine, but I like it.

I started out with a piece of white watercolor paper and a new background rubber cling stamp from The Greetery called Fond of Foliage.  I used  Distressed ink in Frayed Burlap and spritzed it with water.  After drying, I die cut it with Memory Box Wrapped Scalloped Rectangles die. Over the top you see many die cuts from Simon Says Called Eucalyptus Leaves in GKD Ocean Mist card stock.  The sentiment is an old die from PTI.  All together they make a cute card, and my entry for this challenge at

Mod Squad Challenge - Simple Focus

My very good friend Judy Woodland is the host for this challenge at the Mod Squad. She has said just keep it simple.  I wanted to do some water coloring and I looked at a GKD stamp that I have not played with yet.  This is a great time to start. This is a very large stamp and it takes up the entire card front with is 5 X 6 3/4.  This stamp is the Innocent Orchid. We see lots of them in Florida.

I didn't even add a sentiment for now.   I can decide later when I mail it out.
Here is the card that I did for Judy's challenge.

I think that it looks better in real life.  Unfortunately, I need the picture to post it here.
I am entering this in the MSC for these two weeks.

Thanks for stopping by and I always appreciate your comments!

Double D Challenge - "Bee" Inspired

Diane has inspired us with this board of fun images.  She just said BEEs or just be inspired by the board.
Ok, I was stumped by this challenge as I could not find a bee stamp in my collection.  Has that ever happened to you?  So here I am looking and did not find anything to create a nice card. So I did one and I really didn't like it, but it was a Bee card. Then, like magic, I found one that I loved and have never used.  I scrapped the first card and did this one for you.
Here is the inspiration board for you.

My card for inspiration

For this card, I went into the depths of my craft room stamps and found this one from Stampin Up. A never before used stamp, imagine that! It is called Just Buzzin By and I love it again. Along with that, I  stamped a Penny Black Stamp called Refined.  Then I die cut and colored a few flowers and leaves with a Sizzix framelits.  I think the yellow background paper is old , but goes with this theme.

Just check out this prize, you could make a card very much like this one and you will have a chance to win if you enter.

This is the prize for a random winner.

Remember to take a look at the blog.  You can find it HERE.
